Grave Investigations Part 1

By  Lynn Williams

Iíve found cemeteries the best place to train my new investigators.  There are no clients, so if the investigator isnít quite polished, itís not in front of someone whoís called us in.  My first training session took place in a cemetery near Petersburg, Indiana, itís set off by itself with no close structures.  I took two of my investigators; Bill & Carolyn to test their observational skills.  We spent time in the newer part first seeing if we could get any emf spikes, and after a bit I left them on their own.  I walked over to the old part just to get a feel for the area before bringing them over.

I spent 20 minutes walking among the markers before I was truly drawn to one.  As I bent down to read the name, it was as if someone wearing old fashion rose perfume had walked quietly past me.  I walked around to each stone in the area looking for signs of live flowers, there were none.  I also  scanned the area for flowering trees, once again I came up empty.  As a matter of fact, I also noticed there wasnít even a breeze that day.  I decided it was time to bring the others in, so I told them to keep all their senses open and to spend some time in the area.  (I didnít however mention my encounter with the roses)

After 25 minutes it looked as if they were giving up, when I noticed Carolyn stop and begin looking more closely at something.  I walked over to them to find myself before the same stone as before.  Carolyn told me she had smelled roses, and it was as if they just lightly passed her.  Also like before, no roses were found.  We all loaded into the car and drove half a mile in each direction looking for the source, even though there was no breeze, we came up with nothing.  To this day we still wonder if Edith Baker might have been trying to make contact with us and we canít wait to visit Edith again.

Over the years, I have read/watched shows that a cemetary is the last place to look for spirits.  Usually, the spirits end up lurking around where the person actually passed on.  Since most people don't drop dead in a cemetary and get buried on the spot, it would stand to reason there would be no spirits there.

But, on the other hand, I've also read/watched shows where there are many spirits lurking around wherever their physical body has been buried.

What are everyone else's thoughts on this?
